i only take mine off when i wake up in the middle of the night sweating cause it's hot and i freak out cause i'm swelling and i feel like my finger is toooo tight. it's weird.

then i put it back on when i wake up.

That is a horrifying story, Mouse. I don't even have rings, but now I am wary of garbage disposals like I have never been before.
I think one place is probably best - perhaps you could have one receptacle say on your dressing table (away from drains and water sources) where you could leave it while doing housework. Then you wouldn't have to check each little box in the house?

My requirements for a ring were that I never take it off ever. And I don't.

My grandmother used to take her ring off to put on lotion and hair stuff (bad for rings, as A Fortunate Bride mentioned). One day it was on her lap, she forgot, she got up, it rolled away, and was never found again. Worse, it was a old old family diamond and one of those rare flawless stones. In it's previous life it was a Tiffany's test diamond, and they tested all other stones against it. And now it's gone forever. So. Needless to say I don't remove mine for anything ever. I've also heard of them disappearing of bedstands. Nothing is worse for a ring then losing it.

And silly Mouse, the point of the ring is to get it old and beaten up. Being newly engaged is fun, being a old married is something to be proud of.

PS In this case I'm talking wedding ring. I don't wear my engagement ring.

Oh yes I take my ring off! I don't sleep, shower, or put gunk in my hair with it on. All very bad for gold and diamonds. Oh and clean the house but I don't do that too often! I do need a little box though, right now I just put it in the corner of my nightstand before bed and pop it back on before I head out in the morning.
