Glasses.

Before you jump to your answer, let me explain my unique glasses situation. I am completely on board with the idea that people should look like themselves on their wedding days. For instance, had I worn glasses since I was small, like Bride in Exile, I would totally rock the glasses (at least at the reception). But what happened to me is that I had perfect vision until 1. grad school began a few years ago and 2. I developed astigmatism in both eyes last year. What this means is that I have just now started to wear my glasses more than not wear my glasses. I don't think of myself in glasses. Were I to sit down with Tiny Niece and draw our family, neither of us would draw me with glasses.

Therefore I don't want to wear glasses at the wedding.* But, um, I would like to be able to recognize all the people at my wedding, even if they are across the room. So off I go today to see if my eye doc will let me have contacts. If not, I think I'll probably just let people be a little fuzzy if they're far away.***

What are you guys doing about glasses? Is/has anybody pulling/ed off glasses AND serious lipstick? If so, please send photos and I will post your fabulousness.

* This might also be impacted by wanting to wear some seriously awesome makeup at the wedding, and I've found that glasses negatively impact my ability to wear serious lipstick.
** This happens after a few drinks anyway, right?

I am a glasses person and don't feel like I look like myself without them, so I knew I'd wear them on my wedding day. Never owned contacts. But I was worried about the makeup--in particular I always think eye makeup looks weird with glasses. My dude was a total pro, though, and promised to give me a look that would work with them. I was surprised at how well it did (even the eyes!). It can be done.

I am wearing glasses, but then again, I wear glasses almost every day. It didn't use to be that way. I've only been wearing them daily one year ago when I got these frames. Seriously, the right frames will be you reconsider ever taking glasses off your face.

For yourself, I would go the contacts route if the doctor will let you. Or if you can convince them it'll be ok for one night. Otherwise, be slightly blind during the ceremony (you only need to look at He-Mouse anyways right?) and glasses during the reception.

I *love* glasses and have 14 pairs... a collection over the past 10 years since my Rx hasn't changed. My plan is to get another new pair just for the wedding - they are just like shoes for me!

contacts for me, I too have an astigmatism so have toric contact lenses. Make sure you get plenty of practice with them before the big day wearing them outside in cold weather helps as you naturally produce more tears.

i wear glasses, but not all the time, so i feel like i look more like myself without them. i think for you - you should try to go the contacts route if you can - since you see yourself without them.
i love brides in glasses though...i featured one couple a while back who both wear glasses all the time, and i thought they rocked it.

Mouse, I'll tell you a secret: although I put on my glasses first thing every morning and take them off last thing at night, I went without my glasses for the whole wedding, ceremony and reception. I've worn my glasses since I was little, but I've never loved how they look on me, and I feel more glamorous and fun when I put them away for a special occasion. So, no glasses for me at the wedding! Having faraway folks be a bit fuzzy worked out just fine :-)

Let us know how the contacts thing works out, though. I've been toying with the idea of getting contacts, but I have a serious phobia of sticking things in my eyes.

I have worn glasses for 10 years. Then just a couple of months ago I decided that it would be handy to have contact lenses.

I don't know if it is an indictment of how my friends and family see me but not one person commented on my lack of glasses.

I love my glasses but sometimes it is just sooo much easier without them.

Ooo, same here - though I've been wearing glasses a little longer, though just as rarely (classes, driving, movies and airports) and I hadn't even THOUGHT of this yet! I may have to go the contact route also. I regularly do the 'squinting, do i know you, is it you, is it you' thing until someone is a metre or two away - not a good look at my wedding.

I normally wear glasses, like 90-95% of the time, but I decided to go with contacts for the wedding. I didn't really have a particular reason for doing so now that I think about it.

do whatever works best for you, but i do think it's possible to rock both glasses and lipstick, and look hot. case in point (politics aside), sarah palin!
