Here's another venue that almost was:
Old Town Artisans. The venue is actually a little courtyard surrounded by shops that sell Mexican folk art. It's a little campy--ahem,
Kokopelli on the wall--but in a sort of charming way. It turned out not to work for us logistically. It's too small for the 150-person event we're throwing, and it doesn't have enough indoor space for the whole group. And our wedding day last year was, like 105 degrees. I am worried about the little old grandmothers keeling over in the middle of the ceremony, if there's no air-conditioned place to retreat to!

But this place is cute, reasonably priced (VERY reasonably priced), and right downtown. It would be a great spot for a wedding. And it's run by a man with a purple stapler
with purple staples in it. Such a man will have your back on style.
(Our
venue; another
almost-venue)
PS-We fly to Tucson tomorrow, so lots of fresh wedding stuff coming soon!

first of all these places look really cool. i grew up in Arizona, so i totally get the chuckle inducing kokopelli mural on the wall. very "southwestern chic" no? LOL. but if i may, i feel i need to give you a small warning about the weather in AZ. 105 degree heat ain't no joke. it's HOT to the point where it feels like a down comforter you can't escape from under. so I would not recommend getting married outside. even if it's late at night - summer nights in AZ stay in the upper 90s even 100s. So you'd be right in saying granny may not be too comfortable. hell, i'm not sure i know anyone - AZ resident or not - that could stand being out in 100 degree heat for an extended amount of time. so if you can find a place indoors that works, i say lean towards that. i'd rather it rain on my wedding day than be in 100 degree heat, if that's any indication of how bad it is. and if you knew all this stuff about the weather already or have experienced it and are cool with it, then please ignore. just wanted to offer my two cents in case you hadn't :)
Bowie Bride, I am completely on board with this. Our Tucson wedding has a number of heat-mitigating planning strategies: I think I'll post about that this week, because we have learned quite a bit about heat management. I totally agree with you about the heat. Blaaah. Thanks for the advice!
PS I'm from Denver, where we have log cabins and jackalopes instead of kokopellis.
phew! good to hear. and i'm very curious to hear about these heat management strategies. For the benefit of all the folks I know who live in AZ - please do share! any idea to beat the heat during summer, i'd love to share with them.
and ps, just for fun, and because you're getting married in Tucson, you guys should totally include some southwestern chic decor. even if it's a small touch. my personal faves: kachina dolls, dream catchers, and basically anything turquoise. oh, and bolo ties! bolo ties are a hoot!
