Um, okay, I'm really excited about this wedding because Brittany and Josh got married in a SCHOOL.* A little old schoolhouse, actually, on historic Gibbs Farm in Minnesota. They picked a day in early October and rocked the fall theme, despite the fact that it was 33 degrees, a full 30 degrees lower than the average temperature! Nothing could dissuade these two, though, and they carried out a beautiful wedding full of personal and vintage touches. Brittany wore her grandmother's wedding dress, which looked like this back in 1964:
She shortened the sleeves and altered it to fit her, and saved loads of money! Quoth Brittany,
"The biggest money-saving tip I have is: if you have an heirloom wedding dress in the family, do check it out and see if it's wearable! My grandma's dress was in amazing condition--even her pillbox hat veil was perfectly stored. It saved so much money to only have to pay for alterations, cleaning & pressing rather than all that plus a dress! If you don't have access to a family member's vintage gown, check out vintage stores or look online at eBay or etsy.com - with a great seamstress, a special dress with lots of potential can be a perfect fit for you! My grandma's dress was long-sleeved and too small for me, but we turned it into a cap-sleeved gown a la Audrey Hepburn, took it out two inches, and it fit me like a glove!" Awww.
They really hit the details. Because of the cold, they moved the ceremony into an old barn, which they lit with homemade mason jar centerpieces. Favors were homemade candy apples. Josh personalized his Chucks with their wedding date, and fall leaves were everywhere...(Photos by Abbey Feldkamp Photography.)
* Mouse is a big nerd about school. I still wake up and jump up and down and yell "First day of school! First day of school!"
